The newly released, (5/20) "We Best Not Wait" is the first full length album by Ayo Awosika.
Often described as a "songstress", Ayo Awosika is much more than just a woman who sings and writes songs. Born to a Nigerian father and American mother, she was fortunate to grow up in a musically colorful household full of the sounds of the greats spanning across all genres from Fela Kuti and Michael Jackson to Billie Holiday and Madonna; these sounds weaved into the soundtrack of her childhood and ultimately, into her artistry.
A seasoned performer, she has shared the stage with the likes of Richie Havens, Peter Eldridge (of the NY Voices), members of Tower of Power, has toured internationally and across the US with both her band and as a background singer for several artists, and has also performed on Later...with Jools Holland.
"We Best Not Wait" came after a period of big transition. Having lived out west for several years, Ayo made the move to New York City to work with Grammy winning producer, Scott Jacoby (Jose James, John Legend, Rachel Platten). Bringing on a host of amazing musicians, (including Cory Henry of Snarky Puppy) Ayo says, "The idea was to make a record that would hold up well... to make something timeless. Timeless records are the best kind...because they last forever."
